About this tool
WRRK's PDF watermark tool stamps a custom text mark across every page of a document. Everything runs in your browser using pdf-lib — a JavaScript PDF engine that reads, modifies, and writes pages without ever sending your file to a server. Watermarks use built-in standard fonts (Helvetica), so the output works in every PDF reader and stays compact.
Watermarks are useful for marking drafts, branding shared decks, flagging confidential documents, or making a PDF traceable to a specific recipient. Because the work happens on your device, the output is unbranded by us, and there's no signup or daily file cap, you can watermark sensitive material — contracts, client reports, legal exhibits — without ever sending the file off your machine.
How to watermark a PDF (5 steps)
- Drop your PDF. Drag and drop the PDF, or click Choose PDF. The tool reads it locally and shows the page count.
- Type your watermark text. Enter the text you want — common choices are CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT, or your company name.
- Style it. Pick font size, opacity, color, position (top/center/bottom + left/center/right), and rotation in degrees.
- Apply. Click 'Apply watermark'. Everything runs locally — your file is never uploaded.
- Download. Preview the result inline, then click Download to save the watermarked PDF.

Frequently asked questions
+−How do I add a watermark to a PDF for free?
Drop your PDF, type the watermark text, set the font size, opacity, color, position, and rotation, then click Apply. The watermarked PDF is built locally in your browser and downloads instantly.
+−Are my files uploaded to a server?
No. Watermarking runs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your PDF never leaves your device — the tool works offline once the page is loaded.
+−Which fonts are supported?
The tool uses pdf-lib's built-in standard fonts (Helvetica). They're embedded in every PDF reader and don't require shipping a font file, which keeps the output size small.
+−Can I make the watermark diagonal or rotated?
Yes. Set the rotation in degrees — 45 for a classic 'CONFIDENTIAL' diagonal, 0 for horizontal, 90 for vertical. Rotation pivots around the text's anchor point on each page.
+−Will the watermark appear on every page?
Yes. The chosen text is drawn on every page of the PDF. Position (top, center, bottom, left, right) is computed per page based on each page's dimensions.
+−Can I watermark a password-protected PDF?
If a PDF is encrypted, the tool tries to load it with the ignoreEncryption flag. If that fails, decrypt the source first using its original password, then add the watermark.
+−Does the output add a WRRK watermark on top of mine?
No. Only your watermark is added. The output is otherwise a clean PDF with no extra branding from us.
