Currency Converter — INR, USD, EUR & 30+ More
Free currency converter using daily reference rates. Pre-popular pairs, swap, in-browser rate caching, no API key, no signup.
About this tool
Most currency converters are bloated — pop-ups, ads, signup walls, then a tiny calculator. This one is the opposite: type an amount, pick two currencies, read the result. We use a free public rates feed (exchangerate-api.com) that updates daily and doesn't require an API key, so the page stays fast and lightweight.
The default pair is INR/USD, since most of our visitors are in India. Five quick-pick buttons jump to other common pairs (USD/INR, USD/EUR, EUR/GBP, USD/JPY, INR/USD). The Swap button flips the from/to currencies in one tap. Rates are cached in localStorage for one hour, so re-opening the page or switching pairs is instant; tap Refresh to force-fetch the latest.
Important caveat: these are reference rates, not trading rates. For actual money transfer, always check the rate your bank, broker, Wise, Revolut, or other provider is offering — they typically add a 1-3% spread.
How to use it (5 steps)
- Enter the amount. Type any number — decimals supported. The conversion updates as you type.
- Choose 'from' currency. Pick the currency you're converting from. Defaults to INR for India audiences.
- Choose 'to' currency. Pick the destination currency. The dropdown lists 30+ common currencies with full names and symbols.
- Read the result. The converted amount appears on the right with the exact rate (e.g. 1 USD = 83.21 INR) below it.
- Swap or use a popular pair. Tap the swap button to flip from/to. Pre-popular shortcut buttons jump straight to USD/INR, USD/EUR, EUR/GBP, USD/JPY, INR/USD.
Frequently asked questions
+−How fresh are the rates?
Rates are pulled from a free daily-reference feed (exchangerate-api.com), updated once per day around 00:00 UTC. We cache the response in your browser for one hour, so subsequent conversions are instant. Tap Refresh to force a re-fetch.
+−Where do the rates come from?
We call api.exchangerate-api.com/v4/latest/USD, a free public endpoint that aggregates rates from central banks. It does not require an API key. The base is USD; we cross-rate every other pair from there. The endpoint typically returns ~170 currencies.
+−Is this for trading or financial decisions?
No. These are reference rates intended for informational use — invoicing, travel budgets, freelance billing, casual conversion. Trading platforms use real-time market rates with a spread; for actual transactions always check the rate your bank or broker quotes.
+−Why is the rate slightly different from Google or my bank?
Different providers sample different markets at different times. Google often shows the mid-market rate from a different feed. Banks and cards add a 1-3% spread on top of the mid-market rate. Our number is a daily reference — close to mid-market but never exact for a live trade.
+−Do you support cryptocurrencies?
No. This tool is fiat-only — INR, USD, EUR, GBP, JPY and other government currencies. Crypto rates change every second and need a different feed. We may add a separate crypto converter later.
+−Does it work offline?
Partially. Once the page has loaded a rate, we cache it for an hour, so subsequent conversions still work without internet. After an hour the cache expires and a fresh rate fetch will fail until you reconnect.
+−Is my data private?
Yes. Conversions and caching happen in your browser. The only network call is to the public rates endpoint and it carries no identifying data. Nothing is stored or logged on our side.
